Founded: 1803Population: 27,000 (2002 Census)
Location: Southwestern Ohio
Education: 12 Public schools, 2 Vocational schools, 2 colleges/univesities
Formed in 1803, the year Ohio became a state, the township named itself for the large numbers of deer that stopped at local "deer licks," or salt licks. In those days and earlier, "Deerfield Township was clad in its native wilderness," wrote editors of the 19th-century History of Warren County. "Not an open space could be found which would let the mellowing light of the sun pass to the then undisturbed soil."

Chanukah Family Experience
Jewish friends and families gathered at the Jewish Discovery Center in Mason during the Chanukah Family Experience Dec. 24, 2008. Those in attendance enjoyed a Greek dinner and dreidel games, and they created a Menorah out of canned goods that were collected for the area's needy.

Annual jump rope competition
The Fifth Annual Jump with the Stars Workshop, sponsored by the Comet Skippers Jump Team, was held on the Mason Intermediate Campus Dec. 6-7, 2008. The staff consisted of national and world champions in the sport. Several local teams participated as well teams from as far away as Essex, Ontario and Paris, France.
